Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare balanced, nutritious meals, including accommodations for special dietary needs
- Prepare and serve meals for residents and staff
- Work directly with youth residents in meal preparation, cooking activities, and life-skills development
- Maintain safe, sanitary, and organized kitchen, dining, and food storage areas
- Wash dishes and ensure all kitchen equipment and workspaces remain clean and compliant with health and safety standards
- Monitor food inventory, order supplies, and maintain accurate records
- Complete required documentation regarding resident interactions and food service activities
- Promote a structured, efficient, and positive kitchen environment
- Collaborate with residential staff to support meal service and resident engagement
Position Expectations
- This is a hands-on, independent role responsible for managing all aspects of the facility's food service operation
- The Dietary Coordinator serves as the primary kitchen staff member and should be comfortable performing all daily kitchen functions, including:
- Preparing and serving meals for up to approximately 50 residents and staff members
- Food preparation and meal service
- Dishwashing and kitchen cleaning
- Inventory management and food ordering
- Kitchen organization and sanitation
- Managing multiple responsibilities throughout the day with minimal supervision
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED
- ServSafe Certification required
- Experience in food service, dietary services, commercial kitchens, school cafeterias, healthcare, residential treatment, corrections, or similar environments preferred
- Knowledge of nutrition, meal planning, food safety, and kitchen operations
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple responsibilities
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable supervising, mentoring, and teaching youth in a kitchen setting
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform the physical demands of food preparation, dishwashing, cleaning, and meal service
- Positive attitude and flexibility in a dynamic residential treatment environment
- Willingness to complete an on-site cooking demonstration during the interview process
