Responsibilities
- Communicate with residents, dietary personnel, family members, visitors, and the general public.
- Prepare nourishing and healthy meals for all residents and staff.
- Perform tray line functions, including obtaining supplies, serving, portioning food, washing dishes, and operating kitchen equipment.
- Follow Ohio State Board of Health sanitation guidelines.
- Assist supervisor in training and supervising personnel and food preparation.
- Maintain accurate inventory for dietary services duties.
- Estimate food requirements to eliminate waste and properly store/utilize leftovers.
- Complete visual, taste, and smell tests to ensure palatability, safety, and freshness of food.
- Maintain a clean working area during food production and perform sanitation inspections.
- Process late trays and prepare/deliver between-meal feedings as applicable.
- Store perishable food items in compliance with health standards.
- Review resident diet changes daily and adjust care routines as needed.
- Assist in training new dietary service workers.
- Ensure temperature sheets and cleaning schedules are dated and signed.
- Obtain supplies from storage areas for duty completion.
- Prepare and portion simple food items for patient meal service based on forecasted guidelines.
- Serve food on the patient tray line based on customer requests or patient menus.
- Retrieve, clean, and sanitize patient tray carts.
- Clear trays and wash dishes according to established guidelines.
- Maintain patient tray line station stocked with food.
- Prepare and deliver patient nourishments and unit snacks as ordered.
- Report to work as scheduled and alert personnel to staffing needs.
- Float to other departments/facilities as directed.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect patient health information.
- Comply with hospital policies, federal/state laws, and ethical standards.
- Stay updated on pertinent regulations, laws, and policies.
- Perform all other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred; coursework in nutrition or food service management is a plus.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in institutional food service or family dining restaurants; healthcare food service experience preferred.
- ServSafe certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
- Knowledge of elementary mathematics and use of dietary tools/equipment.
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and lead when necessary.
- Excellent writing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and resourceful in emergencies.
