About the Role

The Dietary Aide is responsible for aiding all food functions as directed and in accordance with established food policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Review, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with planned menus, standardized recipes, and special diet orders.
• Prepare and serve residents' nutritional bedtime snacks as well as substitute foods for residents who refuse foods served.
• Ensure food is prepared in accordance with sanitary regulations.
• Maintain the department in a clean and safe manner by ensuring necessary equipment and supplies are available.
• Follow the facility’s standards on Infection Control Precautions when performing daily tasks.
• Perform dishwashing and cleaning procedures to ensure utensils are readily available for the next meal.
• Prepare and deliver snacks as instructed, and deliver food carts and trays to designated areas.
• Serve food and drinks in the dining room as instructed.
• Sweep and mop floors in the kitchen and dish room as instructed by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, and the appearance of work areas.
• Must perform regular inspections of food service areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
• Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
• Must be willing to handle residents based on their current maturity level.
• Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing food practices.
• Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Physical Demands

• Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Must possess sight and hearing senses, or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
• May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
