About the Role
The dietary aide assignments are determined by the needs of the shift. The aide reports to the Cook and Dietary Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Learn food service routine within a short period.
- Set up meal trays.
- Strip down returned trays and wash dishes.
- Assist with serving meals.
- Check and record chlorine concentration and water temperature of the dishwashing machine at the beginning of the shift.
- Monitor water temperatures of the dishwasher during cycles.
- Operate the dishwasher.
- Prepare nourishments and snacks.
- Sweep and mop the kitchen.
- Carry out trash and garbage.
- Store groceries safely, orderly, and cleanly.
- Leave the kitchen in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Assist the cook or dietary supervisor as needed.
- Clean work surfaces and refrigerators.
- Maintain floors by sweeping and mopping.
- Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff.
- Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read technical procedures and follow recipes.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers and employees.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Must obtain and maintain a food handlers' certificate.
Physical Demands
- Standing and/or walking very frequently.
- Sitting occasionally.
- Reaching with hands and arms frequently; pushing/pulling very frequently.
- Talking and/or hearing very frequently.
- Tasting and/or smelling very frequently.
- Lifting up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling occasionally.
- Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception in vision; ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.
