About the role
Stephens County Hospital, a 96-bed acute care facility in Toccoa, Georgia, is seeking a full-time Diet Aide to join our team. This role operates on a schedule of 10:30 am to 7:00 pm and involves serving food, assembling patient trays, preparing basic food items, and performing routine cleaning and maintenance duties.
Responsibilities
- Sets up patient tray line with cold foods and condiments.
- Prepares coffee and tea for tray line and cafeteria.
- Works on tray line in the Starter or Runner positions.
- Prepares patient late trays.
- Prepares and labels all between-meal nourishments accurately.
- Checks temperatures on serving lines.
- Lines trays and bags flatware.
- Ensures hot foods are served hot and cold foods served cold.
- Accepts Team Leader’s authority on patient tray line.
- Prepares salad bar and food bars.
- Assists in preparation of other food items as assigned.
- Practices good sanitation when working with food.
- Sets up cafeteria for breakfast service with cold food items.
- Stocks cafeteria with napkins, carry-outs, cups, lids, dishes, flatware, and condiments prior to each meal and as needed during serving hours.
- Serves on cafeteria line and keeps it clean and tidy.
- Cleans cafeteria tables, condiment rack, and fills salt and pepper shakers.
- Writes menu board neatly.
- Operates cash register and balances drawer.
- Maintains adequate levels on salad and food bar items during meals.
- Ensures cleanliness and tidiness of bars.
- Delivers patient late trays promptly.
- Delivers floor stock to nursing pantries daily; completes floor stock check sheet and ensures adequate stock levels.
- Delivers patient meal carts to nursing units and returns carts to kitchen after meals.
- Delivers nourishments to patients or nursing units.
- Delivers food/supplies to Doctor’s Lounge.
- Follows and completes duties on weekly cleaning schedule.
- Cleans food carts after each meal with a germicidal solution.
- Cleans daily with a germicidal solution all stainless steel surfaces, including carts, equipment, sinks, and countertops.
- Keeps storage areas neat and clean with all food covered, labeled, and dated.
- Removes trash and garbage from the kitchen area and places in dumpster at the end of each shift or more often as needed.
- Sweeps the floors and mops with a heavy-duty cleaner when the Stocks Clerk is off duty.
- Keeps dish room window clear and clean.
- Records temperature of dishwasher, pot sink, and sanitizer concentration in pot sanitizing sink.
- Dismantles, washes, sanitizes, and properly stores all trays, pots, pans, serving utensils, can openers, and ice scoops.
- Cleans and sanitizes coffee pots and tea urns daily.
- Keeps dishes, pots, and pans washed up as scheduled.
- Leaves dish room and pot and pan area clean when finished.
- Follows job outlines to ensure all duties are completed in a timely manner.
- Completes routine tasks without overtime.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Physically demanding, high-stress environment.
- May be up walking on feet up to 8 hours per day.
- Must have the cognitive ability to perform in this role, including critical and executive-level thinking.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Near-normal hearing – able to hear alarms, telephone, normal speaking voice, and webinars.
- Near-normal vision – clarity of vision (both near and far), either corrected or non-corrected, and ability to distinguish colors.
- Good manual dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.
Physical demands within the shift include:
