Tampa, FL – Ongoing listing for entry-level and experienced diesel truck mechanics on multiple shifts.
About the role
Repair, troubleshoot, and maintain Class 8 trucks in a progressive, growing dealer group. Experienced technicians must have 3–5 years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on medium and heavy-duty vehicles.
- Properly set up alignment machine on HD and MD trucks to ensure safe operation and align vehicles to company specifications.
- Troubleshoot various systems—electrical, drivetrain, HVAC, brake, engine, and suspension—identify needed repairs, and perform corrective action.
- Write accurate, clear, and detailed descriptions of the cause of failure and repair procedures on repair orders.
- Use diagnostic equipment to detect and isolate faults in medium and heavy-duty vehicles and interpret test results.
- Read written fault descriptions on repair orders and determine the most efficient repair procedure.
- Communicate with the Shop Foreman to provide accurate and detailed repair information for inclusion on the repair order.
- Obtain supervisor permission to complete diagnosed repairs and/or add additional repairs to a work order.
- Communicate with parts department personnel to obtain or order necessary parts.
- Perform road tests on customer vehicles to assist in problem isolation or verify repair procedures.
- Track and charge clocked hours to the proper corresponding repair order operation.
- Write clear, accurate, and detailed repair descriptions for each operation, including cause of failure and correction/repair procedure.
- Interact with customers in a professional and positive manner.
- Assist other technicians with repair procedures as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; formal technical degree, certificate, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Personal tool inventory to complete job duties and assignments.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Ability to read and interpret shop repair order forms, repair manuals, electrical schematics, and technical bulletins.
- Basic computer skills (keyboard and Windows).
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent exposure to outside weather elements.
- Ability to work 8–10 hour days, including overtime as needed.
- Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, walk, and sit regularly; frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.
