About the role
As a Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on a well-maintained fleet of vehicles. You will help customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. This role offers variety, working on different types of equipment and multiple manufacturers, with a focus on safety and reliability. You’ll work alongside experienced supervisors and master technicians, gaining industry-certified training and hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology in clean, well-equipped facilities.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and ensure vehicles are safe for customers
- Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics
- Conduct preventative maintenance repairs such as replacing or rotating tires, vehicle component lubrication and replacement, electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engine vehicles
- Partner with your manager to learn new skills through Penske’s technician training and hands-on coaching
- Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by your supervisor
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred
- Basic mechanical aptitude and 1-2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to solve problems and comfort using tools
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work well as part of a team and outdoors
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, and regulations established by Penske management
- Ability to perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies, including correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practices
Qualifications
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including an annual motor vehicle records (MVR) check, successfully completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records from prior employers in the last 3 years
- CDL holders will undergo a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and be subject to a FMCSA Clearinghouse review
- Willingness to work the required schedule, work at the specified location, complete Penske’s employment application, submit to a background screening (including criminal checks, past employment, and education), and pass a drug screen and physical as required by the Department of Transportation
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, accepting responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others
Physical Requirements
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, climbing, bending, and sitting for extended periods
- Routine and daily use of hands to grasp, reach, touch, handle, or operate tools and controls
- Ability to work safely at heights using ladders and elevated working platforms
- Ability to work safely in all weather conditions
- Ability to see and hear to safely navigate the work environment, especially with large trucks moving through the workplace
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg
- Ability to push/pull truck tires regularly, exceeding 100 pounds
