Diesel Technician/Mechanic III - Entry Level

About the Role

As a Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on a well-maintained fleet of vehicles, helping customers keep their vehicles in shape and on the road. This role offers variety, working on different types of equipment and cutting-edge technology while prioritizing safety and reliability. You’ll collaborate with experienced supervisors and master technicians, gaining industry-certified training and hands-on coaching in a clean, well-equipped facility.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and ensure vehicles are safe for customers.
• Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic vehicle diagnostics.
• Conduct preventative maintenance repairs such as tire replacement/rotation, component lubrication, electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engine vehicles.
• Partner with your manager to learn new skills through Penske’s technician training and hands-on coaching.
• Complete other projects and tasks as assigned by your supervisor.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair is a plus.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and 1–2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Problem-solving skills and comfort using tools.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, and regulations set by Penske management.
• Ability to adhere to DOT, OSHA, and Penske safety and maintenance policies, including proper use of tools and PPE.

This position requires driving Penske and customer vehicles, regulated by the DOT. A current driver qualification file must be maintained, including an annual MVR check, a successfully completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records from prior employers in the last 3 years. CDL holders will undergo a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and a FMCSA Clearinghouse review. Willingness to work the required schedule, complete a background screening (including criminal checks, past employment, and education), pass a drug screen and physical, and potentially travel for training is required. This role is safety-sensitive, requiring constant alertness and responsibility for personal and others' safety.

Skills

• Mechanical aptitude and vehicle repair experience.

• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and 100 lbs occasionally, and push/pull truck tires exceeding 100 pounds.
