About the role
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the A Technician diagnoses and repairs a fleet of refuse and recycling vehicles, including Mack, IHC, Autocar, Heil, and McNeilus equipment. The role involves supporting coworkers to ensure safe and efficient maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, brake, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, and body components for heavy-duty and light-duty trucks, including gasoline, diesel, and CNG systems.
- Perform welding and fabrication as needed.
- Utilize vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Perform repairs using Factory Service Manuals.
- Complete all required paperwork in a timely and concise manner.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, maintaining a clean and safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
- Maintain high standards of ethics and dependability.
- Provide drive train inspections, diagnosis, and repair.
- Perform general engine inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
- Conduct transmission inspection, diagnosis, and repair.
- Perform outside repair inspection reviews.
- Assess structural damage and assign needed repairs.
- Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to all shop technicians.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of hands-on technical experience in the maintenance and repair of medium-duty and Class 8 vehicles and equipment, preferably in the waste/recycling industry.
- Clear understanding of OSHA safety requirements for vehicle fleets.
- Ability to utilize computers for data tracking, communication, etc. (e.g., Dossier, Microsoft Office).
- CDL Class B preferred or the ability to obtain a CDL license.
- Ability to obtain 7 ASE Certifications or equivalent within 36 months.
