Position Summary
The Diesel Technician II is an intermediate-level technician responsible for performing a wide range of truck maintenance and repair tasks with a high degree of independence. This role supports shop productivity, ensures accurate documentation, and assists in guiding less-experienced technicians while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance (PM) services, DOT inspections, and all required documentation.
- Diagnose and repair brake, suspension, steering, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform engine and after-treatment system service, including EGR, DPF, and SCR components.
- C Conduct driveline and clutch repairs, as well as basic transmission service.
- Diagnose electrical issues using multimeters and OEM diagnostic software (e.g., Cummins INSITE, Detroit DDDL).
- Perform mobile service calls and respond to on-road breakdowns as needed.
- Maintain tool inventory, parts organization, and overall shop cleanliness.
- Accurately enter work order and timekeeping data into company systems.
- Ensure all repairs meet DOT and OEM standards.
- Follow all DOT, OSHA, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings and ongoing technical training.
- Mentor Technician I employees in basic repair work and shop procedures.
- Partner cross-functionally with business units across Carver Companies to support operational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in heavy-duty truck repair or a related field.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to obtain or maintain a CDL-B.
- Working knowledge of diesel engines, vehicle systems, and repair procedures.
- Experience using diagnostic tools and software (e.g., Cummins INSITE, Detroit DDDL).
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and service manuals.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to safely lift up to 75 pounds and work in active shop and job site environments.
Preferred Experience
- A valid Class B CDL license or ability to obtain.
- OEM certifications or formal technical training.
- Previous experience performing mobile or field service repairs.
- Experience mentoring or assisting in the training of entry-level technicians.
