About the role

The Technician Apprenticeship program trains entry-level technicians in various aspects of vehicle engineering, including electrical diagnosis, air conditioning and heating component inspection, and preventative maintenance. The program lasts two years and includes both classroom training and hands-on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks.
  • Diagnose and repair starting and charging systems.
  • Inspect and maintain air conditioning and heating components.
  • Inspect and maintain wheel end assemblies.
  • Inspect and maintain air brake systems.
  • Inspect and maintain hydraulic systems.
  • Work under the guidance of a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager.

To thrive as a Technician with Republic Services, the Apprentice must be a logical problem solver with an interest in vehicle engineering and the commitment to ongoing learning. They must also be willing to uphold the Company’s values of safety, ethics, and respect.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to work flexible schedules, including some nights/weekends or holidays.
  • Ability to travel to and live in Dallas, Texas for 9 weeks of in-person training.
  • Commitment to completing the two-year program.

Skills

Strong problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and a passion for vehicle engineering are essential. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and a willingness to learn new technologies are also important.

Pay

Pay increases after graduation and with promotion to Level C Technician. Boots/Uniforms/PPE provided, and a reward for completing 500/1000 hours of work.

Schedule

Flexible schedule to include some nights/weekends or holidays, with permanent shop assignment in Charleston-SC.
