About the Role

Technicians at Republic Services play a critical role in maintaining the performance and quality of our fleet. A Technician performs routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks.

The Technician Apprenticeship program is a two-year training initiative designed for entry-level technicians, covering:

• Electrical diagnosis of starting and charging systems
• Air conditioning and heating component identification and inspection
• Wheel end assembly component identification and inspection
• Air system component identification and inspection
• Air brakes component identification and inspection
• Hydraulics component identification and inspection
• Truck preventive maintenance

The Technician Apprenticeship Program

Republic Services offers Technician Apprenticeship opportunities across the United States, available in one of our 180 business units. This program allows aspiring Technicians to earn while they learn.

Apprentice Training Experience

Republic Services Technical Institute provides a unique learning and development environment where employees gain on-the-job experience while completing their technician education. The two-year apprenticeship includes:

• Nine weeks of company-paid training at the Republic Services Technical Institute in Dallas, Texas.
• Twenty-two months of on-the-job training (OJT) with mentorship and virtual instructor-led technical content, working toward Apprentice certification as an entry-level Diesel Mechanic.

Individuals demonstrating accelerated development and achieving required milestones may advance to a Level C Technician before completing the 22-month requirement. The Technical Institute also teaches life and leadership skills while building professional networks to support long-term career growth at Republic Services.

Upon placement in a business unit, apprentices receive direct supervision from a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor or Manager. Through the Republic Preventative Maintenance Program and other on-the-job work, apprentices gain hands-on experience in:

• Routine preventive maintenance
• Basic tire work and wheel end components
• Mechanic skills
• Hydraulics and electrical systems

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventive maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including starting and charging systems.
• Inspect and identify components of air conditioning, heating, air brakes, hydraulics, and wheel end assemblies.
• Complete truck preventive maintenance tasks.
• Work under the guidance of a dedicated mentor and Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

• Commitment to completing the two-year apprenticeship program.
• Logical problem-solving skills and an interest in engineering and technology.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, or holidays.
• Willingness to uphold Republic Services’ values, including safety, ethics, and respect.
• Must be willing to travel to and live in Dallas, Texas, for 9 weeks of in-person training (training starts October 19, 2026).
