Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and repairing brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, transmissions, and electrical systems
- Performing preventive maintenance and scheduled fleet inspections
- Troubleshooting batteries, belts, hoses, filters, fluid systems, and related components
- Completing DOT inspections and vehicle-safety assessments
- Using diagnostic equipment and software to identify mechanical and electrical problems
- Responding to emergency or roadside service needs
- Completing accurate work orders and documenting labor, repairs, and parts usage
- Safely moving buses around the facility or between work areas
- Maintaining personal tools, shop equipment, and a clean working environment
- Assisting less-experienced technicians when needed
Qualifications
- At least three years of professional or military hands-on vehicle or heavy-equipment maintenance and repair experience
- Experience diagnosing and repairing multiple mechanical or electrical vehicle systems
- A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
- A current Class B CDL with passenger endorsement, or the ability and willingness to obtain the required CDL within six months of hire
- The ability to meet New York State eligibility requirements for operating a school bus
- The ability to work independently, follow safety procedures, and accurately document completed repairs
- The ability to lift at least 50 pounds and work underneath vehicles in crouched, kneeling, or prone positions
