Diesel Mechanic / Technician

About the role

Our Diesel Mechanics are responsible for maintaining the engine and equipment on our waste collection trucks and providing courteous service to our truck drivers who operate these trucks daily. Our mechanics engage with our drivers and impact their community in a positive way.

Major duties

• Troubleshoots vehicle and equipment operations problems, diagnoses and subsequently makes repairs
• Performs preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment according to standard schedules
• Adjusts, repairs or replaces parts and equipment
• Attends safety meetings and classes
• Maintains tools and equipment
• Maintains a safe and tidy shop
• Welds and fabricates parts as needed
• Performs related duties as assigned

Complexity

The work consists of related vehicle and equipment maintenance duties. The variety of equipment to be maintained contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to participate in the maintenance of company vehicles and equipment. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of company operations.

Knowledge required

• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance principles
• Knowledge of vehicle and equipment diagnostics and repair principles
• Skills in the use of tools and equipment used in the maintenance of vehicles and equipment
