Diesel Mechanic - Experienced

About the role

As a Diesel Mechanic – Experienced (Service Tech IV) at United Rentals, you will perform maintenance and repairs of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment. The position operates with limited supervision in a highly skilled, safe, and professional environment, offering opportunities for growth toward leadership roles within the Service Department while delivering exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on rental and customer equipment and tools, using a high degree of independent judgment.
• Travel to customer job sites as needed to service rental or customer‑owned equipment; keep the service vehicle clean and professional.
• Assist in training lower‑level technicians.
• Maintain complete and timely paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) on a daily basis.
• Assist with pick‑up and delivery of equipment and parts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• 5+ years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
• Extensive knowledge of construction equipment with an advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams.
• Own tools applicable to the position.
• Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to frequently lift items up to 45 lb.
• Position is deemed Safety Sensitive under United Rentals’ policies and procedures.

Pay

Compensation range: $32.65 – $48.95 per hour, varying based on factors such as position, education, training, experience, skills, and ability.
