About the role

The Maintenance Technician B works under the supervision of a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Manager. This position involves performing repair and maintenance tasks on various types of vehicles and equipment, including chassis components, refuse bodies, and control systems. The role also includes basic tire work and requires a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a working knowledge of and proficiency in the following vehicle components and systems: chassis components, refuse bodies, hydraulic and electrical systems, air and hydraulic braking systems, light engines, suspension, drivetrain, steering systems, heating and air conditioning, and line maintenance welding and fabrication.
  • Diagnose and repair multi-system issues, ensuring efficient and safe return to operation.
  • Perform line maintenance and road service as needed.
  • Identify and address malfunctions using electronic diagnostic tools.
  • Complete relevant training programs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with, or knowledge of, maintenance work on Classes 1-5 light/medium duty and heavy-duty Class 7-8 trucks, aircraft, or ships.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications (T1-T8) are preferred but not required.
  • A Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision in some of the following systems: suspensions & steering, general engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drive train, diesel emissions.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a technician position or graduating from an accredited automotive college or technical school within the next 3 months.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Qualifications

  • Ability to diagnose multi-system issues and consistently demonstrate technical expertise.
  • Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.
  • Knowledge of both gasoline and diesel-powered equipment diagnosis and repair.

Skills

Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail are essential. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and a willingness to learn new technologies are also important.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $25.90 to $35.65* with the actual range depending on the locality. A 2nd Shift $3,750 sign-on bonus is offered.
