Diesel Mechanic

Duties and responsibilities

• Performing and analyzing vehicle diagnostic tests.
• Performing the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of hydraulic, suspension, brake and electrical systems on vehicles and equipment.
• Replacing engine, steering mechanism, transmissions, and braking system.
• Servicing and providing preventative maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Keeping detailed records of all vehicles and equipment serviced.
• Repairing engine failures, electrical and mechanical system malfunctions, and body repair and replacement parts and components.
• Servicing machinery and mechanical equipment, including repairs to engines, hydraulics, stationary, and mobile equipment.
• Using computers to issue parts or update comments on work orders/task lists, including diagnostic programs for engines, hydraulic systems, OEM, and brake systems.
• Troubleshooting equipment malfunctions, maintaining supplies, and recommending repairs when necessary.
• Keeping work area and equipment clean and in good order.
• Following safety regulations.
• Using vehicle electronics systems to analyze failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
• Estimating the time and material cost of vehicle repairs and requisitions for new parts.
• Engaging in service calls during an emergency breakdown.
• Conducting safety checks on all vehicles.

Requirements

• Applicable computer skills to use diagnostic scan equipment.
• Your own basic hand tools.
• A positive attitude.
• Must be flexible and willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
• Team player.

Qualifications

• Experience in the field of diesel mechanics.
• Knowledge of hydraulic, suspension, brake, and electrical systems.
• Ability to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on various types of heavy equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
