Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and professional working environment.
  • Diagnose and perform preventative maintenance for heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment.
  • Remove, repair, rebuild, or replace assemblies (diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, axles), sub-assemblies (cylinder heads, oil pumps, fan belts, generators, starters, gauges), and other parts (tie rods, drag links, ball joints, brake linings, bearings).
  • Perform electrical work including wiring systems and starter rebuilding.
  • Repair and/or adjust electrical sensors, EGR valves, and computerized electrical systems according to automotive and Federal Government Clean Air Standards.
  • Diagnose computerized fuel management systems, ignition systems, and engine timing to determine and perform needed repairs.
  • Change tires.
  • Weld broken assemblies, subassemblies, and/or other parts as required.
  • Use, store, record, safeguard, and properly use equipment, materials, parts, and other supplies.
  • Maintain shop and work area in a clean and organized manner.
  • Prepare reports and records of time spent, materials, parts used, and work completed.
  • Learn to utilize various types of diagnostic equipment.
  • Respond to and handle road service calls as needed using a company service vehicle.

Requirements

  • Fleet/transportation repair and maintenance experience of at least 3 years, preferably for a medium to large company.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance and parts manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and other written instructions related to maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge and experience with repair and maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA, DOT) as they apply to operations.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repairs in a garage and/or field, conforming to applicable manuals and instructions.
  • Sense of urgency and ownership.
  • Excellent follow-up skills with the ability to complete assignments through to completion.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and customer service skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid CDL (A class) license.
  • Valid PA Inspection License A+.
  • Valid Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician Certification.
  • Certification under federal Department of Transportation guidelines for brake adjustment and repair.

Physical Demands

  • Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Stand for long periods of time.
  • Kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, stretch, twist, or crawl.
  • Hear sounds and recognize differences between them.
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble small objects.
  • Hold arm and hand steady while moving the arm or hold hand in one position.
  • See details of objects less than a few feet away.
  • Determine the direction of sounds.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Lift 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
  • Use stomach and lower back muscles to support the body for long periods without fatigue.
  • Coordinate movement of two or more limbs (e.g., two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while remaining in place.

Pay

  • A Mechanic Ranking: $42–$46/hour
  • B Mechanic Ranking: $34–$42/hour
  • C Mechanic Ranking: $27–$34/hour

Signing Bonus

  • A Mechanic Ranking: $15,000 (paid in $3,000 installments at 30, 90, 180, 270, and 365 days).
  • B Mechanic Ranking: $10,000 (paid in $2,000 installments at 30, 90, 180, 270, and 365 days).
  • C Mechanic Ranking: $4,000 (paid in two $2,000 installments at 90 and 180 days).

Schedule

2nd or 3rd shift with shift differential. Overtime available as needed.
