Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Evidence of a "safety first" attitude
  • One (1) year progressive heavy equipment maintenance preferred
  • Two (2) years technical degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Must have computer skills for the ability to repair sub-components of all types of buses
  • Must have the ability to understand and follow schematics
  • Intermediate level computer skills (including Microsoft applications)
  • Customer-focused attitude, with high level of professionalism and discretion
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality, establish trust and credibility, and act with complete integrity
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, diligent and able to operate independently with limited supervision (completing assigned work accurately and in a timely manner)
  • Able to work in a team environment, cohesively to ensure vehicle safety
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Sound judgement; Good problem-solving and analytical skills (troubleshoot technical issues, communicate and document solutions to non-technical parties)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be flexible and work in a 24/7 environment
  • Additional training from mechanical/technical schools, courses or seminars desirable
  • Experience with diagnostic computer equipment and software required
  • Ability to learn the design, maintenance, and adjustments of ADA equipment, air conditioning, brakes, chassis, cooling system, engine, interior/exterior lighting, gauges and controls, safety equipment, fire suppression system and sensitive edges, tires and transmissions
  • Hands on experience in electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Use of in-ground and above-ground hoists as well as portable hoists and hydraulic jacks to raise equipment for inspection and repair
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance inspections and procedures such as changing oil and filters, lubricating steering, suspension and brake components, battery maintenance, compressed natural gas tank inspections, etc.
  • Test drive/operate light duty vehicles, trucks, buses and support equipment to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
  • Inspect, adjust, repair and replace protective guards, loose components, and specified safety devices
  • Vehicle chassis alignments
  • Replace, repair, and perform routine maintenance on internal combustion engines to include gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel in addition to transmissions and differential units
  • Repair and adjust seats, doors, and windows, interior and exterior trim and hardware
  • Install, diagnose and repair/replace vehicle accessories
  • Emission related diagnosis and repairs
  • Minor fabrication, welding, grinding, soldering, etc.
  • Performs service calls on vehicles and equipment
  • Assists in training of lower-level personnel
  • Performs backfill supervisory duties as required
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one-two years of vocational/technical schooling or equivalent work experience
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to learn new programs as required
  • All positions require a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) class B with endorsements
  • Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical and drug screening
  • No criminal convictions or DWI, DUI, assault, or possession of controlled substances within the last 5 years
  • Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment performance evaluation
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) physical, drug and alcohol screen and background investigation and pre-employment assessments and tests

Pay Rate

$23.84/HR
