Responsibilities

  • Locate dies, associated tooling, gauging, and proper material for job setup.
  • Continuously improve the process or changeover to reduce setup time.
  • Maintain neat, clean, and organized die racks and finger bar racks; properly store all chutes and miscellaneous die set equipment.
  • Operate hi-lo, crane, and other equipment required to transfer dies and materials.
  • Transfer dies in the proper manner, align dies, steel, feeders, etc., and secure equipment as required.
  • Adjust press, feed, coil height, knockout, air pins, and other settings to obtain inspection approval and safe operation.
  • Set up peripheral equipment such as guards, conveyors, lubricators, and unloading devices.
  • Perform related labor to clean up, set up, and organize; return dies and materials to proper locations.
  • Fabricate or modify air pins, parallels, knockouts, chutes, etc., as required.
  • Maintain and record all related paperwork, including die setup sheets and checklists.
  • Perform first-off inspections using established methods to confirm setup/changeover accuracy.
  • Produce 200 pieces before releasing the job to the operator.
  • Train Press Operator I’s and instruct them during die changes.
  • Participate in internal, external, and Layered Process Audit (LPA) activities as required.
  • Assist with coordination of production floor activities, including MAFACT initiatives, employee training, and driving best practices.
  • Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives through the Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program.
  • Share knowledge, ideas, and best practices with co-workers.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, including IATF 2016:16949, ISO14001 (EMS), MAFACT, and the Employee Handbook.
  • Follow MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required PPE and Lockout procedures; report unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Comply with designated ISO/14001 responsibilities for effective environmental management.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-3 years of die setting experience with metal stamping dies, including progressive, transfer, and line dies.
  • 2-3 years of experience adjusting and programming transfer systems.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, such as bolting dies into presses.
  • Knowledge of MIOSHA standards.
  • Able to work independently and in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong initiative, common sense, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Results-oriented team player with a positive attitude and excellent attendance record.
  • Highly organized, self-starter with flexibility to work extra hours or different shifts as needed.
  • Must have own tools.

Skills

  • Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, and document instructions in English; strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic, compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and work with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of AS400 and bar code labeling systems; experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) preferred.
  • Reasoning Skills: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; solve problems involving concrete variables.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to use active listening, assertive communication, and provide positive/negative feedback effectively.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, speak, listen, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and color vision.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed on the plant floor.
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels.

Certifications

  • Must be able to obtain hi-lo and crane licenses.
