About the role

The University of Utah Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Physics faculty member, with preference given to those with experience in clinical, technical, and regulatory aspects of Nuclear Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage radiology departmental operations to achieve high performance and quality goals.
  • Effectively interact and communicate with others, including residents, staff, and regulatory bodies.
  • Apply knowledge of radiation safety regulations, imaging techniques, and equipment maintenance to resolve safety issues and optimize imaging protocols.
  • Perform and review shielding calculations, implement quality control programs, and estimate patient dose.
  • Provide physics support for ACR Accreditation Programs, revise and review departmental and hospital policies, and participate in research projects.
  • Teach radiological physics to radiology residents and provide radiation safety training for professional and technical staff.
  • Provide radiological physics services to Radiology's diagnostic, radiotherapy, and nuclear medicine divisions.

Requirements

A Ph.D. is required. All applicants must be eligible to obtain Board Certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics from the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage radiology departmental operations, effectively interact and communicate with others, and apply knowledge of radiation safety regulations, imaging techniques, and equipment maintenance to resolve safety issues and optimize imaging protocols.

Skills

Knowledge of imaging techniques, processes, and procedures used in diagnostics, practical application of radiation safety regulations, principles, techniques, and nuclear materials handling, selection, procurement, maintenance, quality checking, and disposal of medical equipment in compliance with related policies, performance of acceptance testing and quality control of diagnostic imaging equipment, performing and reviewing shielding calculations, implementing quality control programs, revising and optimizing imaging protocols, managing protocol doses, estimating patient dose, providing physics support for ACR Accreditation Programs, revising and reviewing departmental and hospital policies, and participating in medical imaging and dosimetry research projects.
