Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) – Barnes
BJC HealthCare System is hiring a Full-Time Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) for Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Eligible candidates may receive a $7,500 sign-on bonus.
About the Role
The Cardiac Diagnostic Laboratory at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is partnered with Washington University School of Medicine to provide state-of-the-art multi-modality echocardiographic imaging. The RDCS performs ASE-guided, non-invasive cardiovascular testing in an IAC-accredited lab to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac disease or injury, including advanced pathologies and anatomies such as 3-D echocardiography, transplanted heart and lungs, assist device placement and management, transcatheter valvular repair/replacement, congenital abnormalities, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and research protocols. Testing modalities include transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress transthoracic echocardiography.
Schedule
- Day shift: 4 – 10-hour shifts per week (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM) with rotating days off
- Paid Saturday rotation: approximately once a month (8-hour shift, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM) with an additional day off during the week
- Closed on Sundays and all major holidays
- No after-hours call
Responsibilities
- Performs complex echocardiography exams at various locations throughout the academic campus.
- Evaluates all aspects of cardiovascular patient clinical assessment for cardiac conditions and recognizes abnormalities.
- Reviews and correlates relevant patient history, including corrective procedures and surgeries.
- Applies independent clinical judgment during exams to ensure appropriate anatomical, pathophysiological, and clinical conditions are captured in examination images.
- Acquires advanced modalities as trained, including 3D, right heart strain, TAPSE, PISA, transcatheter pre/post valvular repair/replacement, and HOCM.
- Communicates with the healthcare team for collaboration of care.
- Reviews examination images, synthesizes results, and prepares preliminary findings to support the interpreting physician echocardiographer.
- Contributes technical impressions and professional knowledge to facilitate the completion of the final diagnostic report for clinical care.
Requirements
- Associate's Degree or Trade School equivalency
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification
- Experience with GE equipment, including newer GE E95 machines, PICOM Imaging/Reporting system, and EPIC
Preferred Qualifications
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification

Services include Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE), Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE), Stress Echocardiograms, Nuclear Stress Tests, Treadmill Exercise Stress Tests, Event and Holter Monitors, and EKG Processing.
