Educate & Empower
Teach patients insulin self-administration, glucose monitoring, and use of glucose pumps.
Support Lifestyle Change:
- Provide guidance on medications
- Nutrition
- Lifestyle adjustments
Lead Programs
Deliver DSME curriculum aligned with American Diabetes Association (ADA) standards and current best practices.
Collaborate
Work closely with multidisciplinary providers to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
Improve Outcomes
Collect and validate DSME program data to enhance effectiveness and patient success.
Stay Current
Act as a resource for updated diabetes education and continuously refine program content.
Education & Experience
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including teaching in a specialty area
- Experience in outpatient care and working with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong critical thinking and clinical competence
Licensure & Certification
- Current RN license in Maryland OR Nurse Multi-State Compact license with “Compact” or “Multi-State Privilege” designation
- Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) credential preferred, or eligibility to obtain certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with CPT/ICD coding and ADA guidelines for outpatient diabetes education
- Strong documentation and continuing education record
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to teach, motivate, and inspire patients
- Commitment to excellence in practice and patient-centered care
