About the role
PNNL's AI and Data Analytics Division, part of the National Security Directorate, seeks a DevOps/Platform Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team building scalable AI platforms, cloud-native infrastructure, and high-performance data pipelines. The role is ideal for early- to mid-career engineers expanding their expertise in AI/ML infrastructure, cloud technologies, and distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Build and deploy cloud-native AI platforms, agentic AI applications, and large language model (LLM) solutions.
- Develop scalable data pipelines, streaming architectures, APIs, and microservices to process high-volume, real-time data.
- Design and maintain containerized infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing to support reliable software delivery.
- Improve system performance, observability, security, and operational reliability across production environments.
- Collaborate with software engineers, data scientists, and researchers to deliver innovative AI capabilities.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, technical planning, and continuous improvement while growing your technical leadership.
Qualifications
- PhD - OR - MS/MA - OR - BS/BA and two (2) years of professional software development experience.
- Current, hands-on software development experience using Python.
- Experience with cloud platforms, infrastructure automation, or CI/CD through professional, academic, or personal projects.
- Programming or scripting experience using Python, Bash, or similar languages.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and an interest in Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
- Exposure to AI/ML workflows, data pipelines, or model deployment through professional, academic, or personal projects.
Benefits
The position is based in Richland, WA and requires an onsite presence Monday through Thursday, with Friday as required by business needs.
Pay
USD $109,000.00/Yr.
