About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Staff Cloud DevOps Engineer specializing in AWS and Kubernetes to join our team remotely in the US. This full-time position plays a critical role in architecting, implementing, and optimizing scalable, secure cloud-native infrastructure to support Caris's mission of advancing precision medicine. The ideal candidate will lead strategic initiatives, drive technical transformations, and serve as a subject matter expert in cloud migrations, security implementations, and DevOps best practices. You will develop long-term technical roadmaps, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with executive leadership to align technology solutions with organizational goals. This role requires a proactive leader who champions operational excellence, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing across the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- 9+ years of experience in DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering roles
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services and cloud architecture
- 7+ years of experience with Kubernetes, including cluster management, troubleshooting, and optimization
- Expert proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Go)
- Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK
- Deep understanding of containerization technologies and orchestration platforms
- Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-grade CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitLab CI
- Expertise in complex AWS networking and hybrid/multi-cloud environments (preferred)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Experience leading proof-of-concept initiatives and evaluating new technologies
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the implementation of large-scale Kubernetes environments on AWS EKS, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security standards
- Design and deploy advanced features such as multi-cluster management, service mesh architectures, and custom controllers
- Drive proof-of-concept initiatives for emerging cloud-native technologies, assessing their impact on the organization
- Establish and maintain enterprise-wide standards for Kubernetes cluster lifecycle management, security policies, and performance optimization
- Provide expert consultation to cross-functional teams on cloud-native application design, microservices architecture, and container orchestration strategies
- Develop comprehensive observability solutions integrating metrics, logs, and traces, and establish organization-wide standards
- Lead the adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and oversee CI/CD pipelines using tools like ArgoCD, Helm, and Kustomize
- Implement and enforce cloud security strategies, including zero-trust architectures, compliance checks, and security-as-code practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders on large-scale cloud migration and application modernization projects
- Identify opportunities for process automation and continuous improvement within cloud operations and DevOps practices
- Lead incident response efforts and participate in on-call rotations to ensure cloud infrastructure reliability and resilience
