About the role
Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer (Level 3 or 4) to join our team in Linthicum, MD. DevOps Engineers must have a strong understanding of system architecture, provisioning, and administration, along with experience in traditional developer toolsets and practices such as source control, code reviews, unit testing, and Agile principles.
Successful candidates will support daily tasks by managing CI/CD pipelines, automating deployments, monitoring system health, and handling infrastructure as code. This position is contingent upon obtaining final clearances and program access within a reasonable timeframe.
Responsibilities
- Build and run containers
- Administer Linux systems
- Write and maintain shell scripts
- Work with Git for version control, code reviews, releases, patching, and pipeline support
- Manage and support CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or Jenkins preferred)
- Deploy and manage Kubernetes environments, including Helm for deployments and environment support
- Work with messaging software (e.g., Kafka, Artemis)
- Support Java-based design, implementation, testing, and code reviews
- Maintain user-facing tools in cloud environments (preferred)
- Monitor system health (e.g., using Prometheus or similar tools)
- Implement access control techniques (RBAC, ABAC) and tools (e.g., Keycloak)
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance with Full Scope Polygraph
- Strong experience with Linux administration
- Proficiency in shell scripting
- Experience with Git
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (GitLab or Jenkins preferred)
- Experience with Kubernetes and Helm
- Experience with messaging software (e.g., Kafka, Artemis)
- Strong understanding of the Java programming language
Qualifications
Principal DevOps Engineer (Level 3):
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience, or
- PhD with 1+ years of relevant experience
- An additional 4 years of experience may substitute for a degree
Sr. Principal DevOps Engineer (Level 4):
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 6+ years of relevant experience, or
- PhD with 4+ years of relevant experience
- An additional 4 years of experience may substitute for a degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph
- Experience with Ansible
- Experience with Python
- Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus)
- Familiarity with computer networking
- Familiarity with access control techniques (RBAC, ABAC) and software (e.g., Keycloak)
- Experience maintaining user-facing tools in a cloud environment
Pay
Principal DevOps Engineer (Level 3): $108,800.00 – $163,200.00
Sr. Principal DevOps Engineer (Level 4): $135,800.00 – $203,600.00
Base salary offers consider factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differentials, discretionary bonuses, annual performance-based bonuses, and long-term incentives (for Vice President or Director roles).
