DevOps Engineer - Global Business Application & Platform Services
About the role
The Costco IT department is responsible for the technical future of Costco Wholesale, a global retailer with a strong focus on employee-centric culture and community involvement. As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in transforming the retail environment, ensuring that software builds, tests, and deployments are automated and efficient.
Responsibilities
- Create and apply software development and security standards and practices.
- Plan, design, and document software components.
- Develop and operate end-to-end automated solutions for IT operations (deployment, release management, monitoring).
- Collaborate with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Configure and maintain on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure for availability, performance, scalability, and security.
- Create and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
- Maintain and extend automated CI and CD pipelines.
- Drive self-sufficiency within teams by providing tools and training.
- Coordinate resources across technology functions to stand up and monitor environments.
- Manage development and test environments, deployment, automation, and support test data management.
- Create workflows using automated pipelines for CI and CD.
- Create version control branching strategies.
- Work cross-value streams to resolve merge conflicts.
- Develop tool integrations for end-to-end traceability in application development.
- Engineer Automated CI/CD Pipelines: Lead CI/CD workflow development and optimization.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Programmability: Develop reusable infrastructure templates using Terraform, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on-call responsibilities.
Requirements
- 10+ years’ IT experience.
- Experience in software development and infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
- Tooling and Automation: Source, Build/Test/Scan, Artifacts, Deploy.
- Environments, Lifecycles, Application Boundaries, and Release Orchestration.
- Reusable Steps & Scripting.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Programmability.
- Provisioners vs. Configuration Management.
- Experience with Azure cloud services.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Ability to automate software-defined networking.
- Knowledge of Agile Methodologies.
- Proficient in Google Workspace applications.
Qualifications
- Solid understanding of development/coding methodologies.
- Team player; good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Recommended 5+ years’ experience deploying enterprise Google cloud technologies.
- 8+ years’ experience with enterprise infrastructure and software systems.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) certification(s) preferred.
Skills
- Excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of application architecture, network technologies, application security, and infrastructure architecture.

Pay
- Level 1 - $85,000 - $110,000
- Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000
- Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000
- Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000
- Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
- Level Staff - $180,000 - $225,000
- Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
