Device Embedded Software SDE, Ring
About the role
As an Embedded Software Development Engineer, you will define, build, and support the system design, architecture, and software for Ring IoT products. You will collaborate closely with business and cross-functional engineering teams to gather requirements, design, and implement new features. Your contributions will span the entire agile software and systems development lifecycle, including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing, and operations.
Your work is hands-on and multidisciplinary, involving close collaboration with hardware engineers, product and program teams, and external engineering partners. You will write documents, code, conduct experiments, demonstrate proof-of-concepts, build prototypes, debug problems, and ship sophisticated systems.
Responsibilities
- Dive deep to solve critical design issues involving algorithms, hardware/firmware interfaces, and IoT interfaces.
- Participate in design reviews for complex embedded systems, simulations, algorithms, and software development.
- Influence technical implementation within your team and partner teams to drive overall system designs.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance team agility, including design, automation, development, testing, or operations.
- Define and refine system requirements, and develop interoperability-related features such as system health monitoring, diagnostics, repair, and self-healing automation.
- Develop embedded software in C/C++ for Linux and real-time operating system environments.
Requirements
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) for new and existing systems.
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
- Experience writing low-level drivers.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Experience in embedded wireless systems.

Pay
- USA, CA, Hawthorne: $143,700.00 - $194,400.00 USD annually
- USA, CA, Sunnyvale: $165,200.00 - $223,600.00 USD annually
- USA, MA, North Reading: $143,700.00 - $194,400.00 USD annually
