About the role

The Development Project Engineer (Q-Systems: Security) is a key member of the development team, supporting the security design, pre-construction, and construction phases of projects.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the security design, pre-construction, and construction activities for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Contractors, Designers, Engineers, Commissioning Agents, Vendors, and Data Center Operations & Corporate real estate staff.
  • Update budgets, schedules, and status reports for each project.
  • Prepare updates for the development program and project status for executive reviews.
  • Participate in the master development program for sites, including campus design solutions and capital budgets.
  • Handle entitlement and permitting needs for each site project.
  • Manage scopes of work for design, construction, commissioning services, and procurement processes.
  • Coordinate submittals with site stakeholders and monitor project budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with project schedules and manage teams for timely completion.
  • Negotiate change order requests and establish site construction security procedures.
  • Create and maintain relationships with key stakeholders to enhance QTS’s leadership position.
  • Support internal development team in enhancing project management processes and protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Science, Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Up to 25% travel required.
  • US Citizenship required due to federal customer contracts.
  • One or more years of experience in technology systems - security, design, and/or implementation.
  • One or more years of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures.
  • Direct experience in the construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale technology systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate technical issues to leadership or non-engineers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Science, Engineering, or Construction Management field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite, specifically PowerPoint for program updates and Excel for budgets.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time.
  • US Citizenship required due to federal customer contracts.

Skills

  • One or more years of related experience in technology systems - security, design, and/or implementation.
  • One or more years of professional experience in commercial construction practices and procedures.
  • Direct experience in the construction of data centers, critical medical, industrial, construction, oil and gas, or large-scale technology systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to understand and communicate technical issues to leadership or non-engineers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
