DEVELOPMENT MANAGER AT MONIQUE BURR FOUNDATION
The Monique Burr Foundation for Children (MBF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1997 to continue the legacy of child protection and advocacy. MBF’s mission is to protect children by providing comprehensive, evidence-based prevention education programs addressing child abuse, exploitation, bullying, cyberbullying, human trafficking, digital abuse, and other digital dangers. MBF’s programs—including MBF Child Safety Matters®, MBF Teen Safety Matters®, MBF Athlete Safety Matters®, and MBF After-School Safety Matters®—educate and empower students and adults with strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond to these threats.
About the role
MBF seeks a resourceful, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Development Manager to build and execute the donor engagement and events function supporting MBF's fundraising work. This hands-on, individual-contributor role will report to the Chief of Staff initially, with a transition to a Director/Vice President of Development as the organization expands. The Development Manager will own MBF’s two flagship fundraising events while building donor stewardship systems and relationships to drive continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Event Management & Execution
- Own end-to-end logistics for MBF’s flagship fundraising events: the Champions for Child Safety Pro-Am Golf Tournament and A Night in the Vineyard, including vendors, budget, signage, and on-the-ground details.
- Manage sponsor and donor experience during events in coordination with the board and CEO.
- Coordinate event committee meetings and volunteer support.
- Support planning for MBF’s 30th-anniversary year, including a new donor appreciation event.
- Oversee event experience for all ad-hoc engagements.
- Donor Engagement & Systems/Infrastructure Building
- Build Salesforce CRM processes for gift entry, data integrity, and donor stewardship workflows in collaboration with the Sr. Manager of Data Infrastructure and Operations.
- Develop and implement formal acknowledgment and thank-you processes (currently minimal/manual).
- Own renewal and stewardship communications for MBF’s $10K and below sponsor and donor tier.
- Support donor communications and analytics, translating program impact into donor-facing storytelling.
- Relationship & Partner Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for donors, sponsors, vendors, prospects, and event committees.
- Partner with the incoming Director/VP of Development on high-dollar (above $10K) sponsorship solicitations.
- Identify and research potential new donors for the Foundation.
- Collaborate with marketing/communications on donor-facing design and creative work.
- Adaptability & Resourcefulness in a Growth Environment
- Operate effectively amid shifting priorities and evolving organizational structure.
- Take on varied tasks, from strategic planning to hands-on logistics, mailings, and site visits.
- Contribute ideas and support for new donor engagement initiatives.
- Mission Alignment & Community Connection
- Represent MBF’s mission authentically across donor and community touchpoints.
- Build MBF’s presence and network within the Jacksonville community and beyond.
- Approach donor engagement with a mission-centered (rather than transactional) mindset.
Qualifications
- Event Management & Execution
- Track record of owning fundraising or large-scale events start-to-finish, including vendor and budget management.
- Experience managing sponsor or high-value stakeholder relationships tied to an event.
- Comfortable being hands-on and “in the weeds”; no direct staff to delegate to.
- Creative eye for event experience and visual presentation (e.g., signage, materials, event design).
- Donor Engagement & Systems/Infrastructure Building
- Direct CRM experience (Salesforce preferred but not required).
- Experience creating donor stewardship workflows from scratch (e.g., acknowledgment letters, tiered communications).
- Ability to translate impact data into donor-facing storytelling.
- Relationship & Partner Management
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building track record, ideally in donor-facing, customer-service, or account management roles.
- Experience navigating high-profile or high-value stakeholder relationships with tact.
- Collaborative style; comfortable contributing to adjacent work like design and communications.
- Adaptability & Resourcefulness in a Growth Environment
- Experience in resource-constrained or early-stage environments (e.g., small nonprofits, university advancement offices).
- Self-confidence balanced with humility; willing to perform tactical, in-the-weeds work.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and change; energized by a “build as we grow” environment.
- Mission Alignment & Community Connection
- Genuine connection to MBF’s child-safety mission; transferable skills valued over direct sector background.
- Based in or near Jacksonville, with authentic community ties or potential to build new networks.
- Able to articulate a personal connection to MBF’s mission beyond general nonprofit interest.
Schedule
