Development Intern - Fall 2026

About the role

The American Lung Association has an excellent opportunity for a Development Intern in Tampa, FL. Working alongside members of the Development Team, the intern will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education, and advocacy.

Responsibilities

• Gain a basic understanding of the American Lung Association
• Be knowledgeable of mission, development, and communications efforts
• Utilize multiple online databases and CRMs
• Participate in staff meetings and learning opportunities
• Develop and distribute press releases
• Engage in grassroots marketing for cause campaigns and special fundraising events
• Recruit for team and volunteer participation in special events
• Assist with event logistics for two major fundraising events
• Support corporate development through sponsorships, underwriting, and in-kind solicitation
• Develop individual donor development campaigns
• Support all aspects of office special events including the Gulf Coast Bike Trek, Fight For Air Climb, and various wraparound events

Qualifications

• Must be working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Non-Profit Management, Public Health, or related field
• Qualified candidates must be enthusiastic, reliable, and interested in developing a career in development or non-profit management
• Qualified candidates should possess strong writing skills, attention to detail, and a keen interest in the mission of the American Lung Association
• Ability to multitask, perform in a team environment, and a demonstrated willingness to learn
• Computer proficiency - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
• Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (supplies)
