About the role

As a Development Engineering Technician at Redwood Materials, you will support a wide variety of analytical and metallurgical processes across the company. Under moderate supervision, you will perform tasks including building, monitoring, controlling, and optimizing chemical and metallurgical processes and unit operations in pilot, production, or laboratory environments. This role will aid engineers in starting up and testing new processes and equipment and performing experiments.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on monitoring and optimizing processes and equipment at lab-, pilot-, and production-scale.
  • Follow technical instructions and standard operating procedures.
  • Meticulous data collection and observation recording.
  • Apply basic knowledge of math, chemistry, and/or computer skills relevant to the assignment.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrate safety-consciousness and learn applicable EHS standards and proper chemical handling techniques.
  • Work independently and safely with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • A.S. or B.S. degree in a related field (desired).
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain relevant processing equipment.
  • Interest in assembling and fabricating process equipment to support operations.
  • Experience with laboratory sample preparation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with OSHA/MSHA rules, chemical hazards, and industrial safety programs.
  • Capability to work in challenging conditions, including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes for extended periods in full PPE suits and head covers.
  • Knowledge and proper use of safety equipment, such as safety glasses, fitted masks, PAPR, Tyvek suits, safety shoes, and other personal protective equipment.
  • Physical ability to stand, lift, and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and clean working environment, adhering to company policies and industry standards.
  • Proficiency using MS Office, including Excel spreadsheets and Word documentation.
  • Ability to work a shift schedule with flexibility.

Physical Requirements

  • Work hands-on in a manufacturing environment, including standing and operating equipment.
  • Lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Wear proper PPE when necessary.

Working Conditions

  • Environment: office, machine shop, wet laboratory, chemical plant, outdoor test sites.
  • Essential physical requirements: working hands-on in a production setting.
  • Travel required as needed, less than 10%.
