Development Associate

About the role
This position supports the Development Manager (DM) in all phases of project analysis, approvals, budgeting, construction oversight, and asset management for residential and mixed-use developments.
Responsibilities
- Conduct market studies and feasibility analysis for acquisition properties and surrounding areas.
- Review local ordinances to verify approval requirements, development restrictions, and quantify development fees.
- Complete due diligence checklists as directed by the Development Manager.
- Assist the DM and consultants in preparing applications for all required approvals.
- Help procure all regulatory, investor, lender, and internal approvals required for project development.
- Assist in preparing proforma operating statements, construction and operating budgets, and other financial documentation to support project feasibility.
- Review proposed and actual construction and design change orders; implement precautions to avoid future issues.
- Maintain orderly, up-to-date project files accessible to all stakeholders.
- Coordinate services of lawyers, engineers, architects, surveyors, land planners, and other professionals for project analysis, design, engineering, and construction.
- Review progress of construction documents and identify inconsistencies with budget assumptions and design intent.
- Visit projects monthly (or as directed) to ensure adherence to plans, quality standards, and schedule maintenance.
- Support the DM in asset management responsibilities and prepare certifications/documentation for ultimate sale.
- Coordinate with other Related employees, subsidiaries, or affiliates for evaluation, analysis, acquisition, sale, development, construction, financing, management, or operation of projects.
- Report to the President of RD and other designated employees regarding duties and project affairs.
Requirements
- 3+ years of development experience.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Multifamily or condominium development experience.
- Basic understanding of construction standards and practices.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, internet research, and project tracking software.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task and work independently with minimal supervision.
Skills
- Bilingual in Spanish (a plus).
