About the role
We're seeking an experienced Application Developer to modernize a legacy VB.NET application into a scalable, secure, and maintainable C#/.NET solution supporting a mission-critical public safety environment. This is not a simple code conversion project. The ideal candidate can analyze legacy applications, identify critical business logic versus technical debt, and design modern solutions using current .NET best practices.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and document an existing VB.NET application, including architecture, dependencies, and business rules
- Design and recommend a modern C#/.NET solution
- Modernize legacy functionality while preserving critical business requirements
- Create technical documentation, migration plans, and risk assessments
- Collaborate with stakeholders to validate requirements and define scope
- Support modernization efforts in a secure, highly regulated environment
Requirements
- Strong experience with C#, .NET, and ASP.NET
- Ability to troubleshoot and maintain VB.NET/.NET Framework applications
- Experience modernizing or replacing legacy enterprise applications
- Hands-on experience with:
- HTML5, jQuery
- SSRS and SSIS
- APIs and system integrations
- RabbitMQ
- Knowledge of modern development practices, including:
- ASP.NET Core
- Dependency Injection
- Unit Testing
- CI/CD
- Async Programming
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in public safety, government, law enforcement, healthcare, finance, or other regulated industries
- Familiarity with CAD systems, CentralSquare Technologies, or similar platforms
- Experience working with sensitive data, security controls, and change management processes

You have successfully modernized legacy applications, can reverse-engineer complex systems, communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders, and understand how to balance innovation with operational stability in mission-critical environments.
