About the role

The Police Detention Unit is open 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. This position is required to work various schedules to include days, swing-shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays. This position subject to a six (6) month probationary period.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and oversee the daily operations of the assigned area by setting goals and objectives, managing schedules and work priorities, monitoring and evaluating performance, facilitating access to resources and training, providing guidance and addressing issues, conducting interviews and making hiring decisions.
  • Performs the duties of a Detention Officer.
  • Develops unit policies and procedures.
  • Oversees the general care and custody of arrestees and detainees.
  • Conducts holding facility inspections.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Responds to internal and external inquiries.

Requirements

  • Must possess a High School or GED equivalency.
  • Must have 4-years’ experience as a detention officer, or a related role or position; and
  • Must possess a DPS Terminal Operator Level B upon hire; and
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
