About the role
This position supervises inmates in Tarrant County Confinement facilities, ensuring their safety and managing their care. It involves responding to emergencies, maintaining cleanliness, and enforcing rules.
Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency situations and routine drills
- Maintain physical fitness for job duties
- Use reasonable force when necessary
- Supervise inmate feeding and special dietary needs
- Supervise inmate movement and recreational activities
- Distribute mail and hygiene items
- Enforce rules and regulations
- Complete paperwork and produce legal documents
- Attend and complete training required by statute or TCOLE
- Handle volatile situations professionally
- Ensure safety and security of facilities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Must obtain Jailer License within one year
- Valid Texas driver's license
- U.S. Citizenship
Skills
- Good interpersonal and public relations skills
- Ability to understand and apply court orders and policies
- Proficiency in using basic word processing software and County/Jail information systems
- Ability to use defensive tactics including intermediate impact weapons and firearms if required
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of Jail Standards and State statutes
- Working knowledge of applicable County policies and TCSO policies
- Understanding of department organization and functions

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly stand, sit, twist, lift, stoop, walk, run, and climb stairs/ladders
- Exposure to extreme noise, communicable diseases, possible riots, escapes, verbal and physical abuse, and hazardous materials
- Subjected to working under trying conditions during emergencies for extended periods
- May be exposed to household cleaning agents, pesticides, and toxic smoke
- Requires ability to lift 40 lbs, wear an air pack, and partially lift and drag an average weight person of 185 lbs
- Requires ability to use emergency equipment and physically restrain inmates
