Description
A training position involving attendance at a recognized Correctional academy for the express purpose of becoming an Alachua County Sheriff's Office Detention Officer/Detention Deputy. This position requires commitment, diligence and initiative.
Examples of Duties
- Attend and successfully complete the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Corrections Basic Recruit course
- Meet all standards required for employment at the Alachua County Sheriff's Office
- Attend academy/work shifts promptly on a continual basis
Typical Qualifications
- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Preferred Major(s): Criminal Justice, Psychology, or other related field
- High School/GED - Required
- Associate's Degree - Preferred
- Bachelor's Degree - Preferred
- EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- Experience in the criminal justice field is preferred
- Current, valid Florida driver’s license
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must pass all current ACSO testing and background processes
- Must be willing to enter into an employee training agreement regarding length of ACSO employment
- Must meet or exceed all applicable physical agility standards required by ACSO
- Sit/stand for extended periods
- See/hear at a normal range
- Ambulate independently
- Lift/carry 150+ pounds
- Push/pull moderate to heavy loads
- Bend and squat
- Manual dexterity
- Drive a vehicle
- Pass any required physical testing mandated by ACSO and/or CJSTC
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
- Good knowledge of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Ability to learn material presented at the Academy
- Ability to analyze problems quickly and effectively
- Ability to apply modern law enforcement principles/procedures to solve practical problems
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to comprehend and follow instructions/orders
