Detention Officer-On Call

Responsibilities

Detention Officers are responsible for the custody and security of detainees assigned to the facility.

• Search for contraband and provide security
• Count, feed and supervise non-citizens in housing, work, and other areas
• Provide custody and security of non-citizens including observation of non-citizens
• Perform security of various assigned areas
• Perform specific security functions including ‘pat’ and ‘strip’ searches, by squatting and bending to perform such functions
• Climb ladders or stairs in search of contraband
• Transfer and transport non-citizens by walking or riding in vehicles
• Restrain and secure assaultive non-citizens, as needed
• Work rotating shifts and all post assignments
• Maintain the secure custody and security of non-citizens including observation of non-citizens, which includes long periods of standing and sitting
• Make periodic rounds of assigned area which may include long periods of walking and standing

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Prior correctional experience is preferred but not required
• A valid driver license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management

Pay and Schedule

Pay: $23.61 per hour, Work schedule: On-call
