Responsibilities
- Oversight and monitoring of detainee activities in living, recreation, dining, and visitation areas.
- Coordination and monitoring of detainee movements, conducting counts, and providing emergency response as needed.
- Assignment to various posts such as control room, front and sally port entrance, health services, special housing, perimeter security, transportation, work details, reception, intake, and visits officer, as required by management.
- Security in program activities and supervision of labor crews in various areas around the facility.
- Conducting shakedowns for contraband materials, confiscating contraband in accordance with policies and procedures, initiating disciplinary reports, preparing reports, maintaining daily logs, and ensuring prompt assistance to detainees in case of injury, illness, or trauma.
- Promoting facility cleanliness and reporting maintenance or repair needs.
- Serving as a member of special teams to respond to emergencies as required.
- Completing training courses as required by facility training standards.
- Performing security duties for any shift as defined by management.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent certification required.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
- College coursework and advanced training in behavioral sciences, security services, or related field preferred.
- Training in cultural diversity or sensitivity preferred.
- Possession of applicable state requisites for employment.
- Able to work overtime as required.
- Able to handle physical and mental stress associated with working extended hours.
- Able to regularly report to work without being late.
- Able to be physically alert on any shift that is assigned.
- Able to work up to sixteen (16) hours within a rolling 24 hour period.
- Work experience in a security environment setting preferred.
- May be required to possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Mature, flexible, able to command the respect and confidence of detainees and staff, and possess a high tolerance to mental stress.
