Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Maintains correctional facility, security, safety, and sanitation.
- Facilitates day-to-day operational activities of the correctional facility.
- Facilitates positive behavior by observing and recording resident and visitor activities and behavior patterns.
- Shakes down residents, visitors, facilities, and property to detect and deter unauthorized items.
- Verifies resident population at regular/special time intervals.
- Subdues disruptive residents to facilitate normal facility operations.
- Inspects, visually and physically, resident living units to detect safety and security deficiencies.
- Attends training classes and seminars to develop and improve work knowledge, abilities, and skills.
- Maintains records and process documents for work-release residents.
- Administers CPR and first aid as needed.
- Coordinates with and assists designated health care providers in delivery of resident health care.
- Performs special, technical duties such as providing commissary service and assisting with medication management.
- Functions on-call for emergencies and in the sergeant's and lieutenant's absence.
- May be required to work day, evening, or night shift, and alternate between shifts.
- May be required to work holidays and weekends.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to high school graduation and completion of 40 hour jailer training within one year of hiring.
- Valid driver's license.
Physical & Environmental Characteristics
A physical agility test followed by a competitive written examination will be administered on Saturday, August 22, at 8:00 am. Location to be determined. Standards of testing may be found Physical-Agility-Testing-Requirements.
