About the role
As a Detention Officer, you'll be entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the welfare, confinement, and management of individuals within the city jail. This role requires a combination of empathy, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to upholding principles of justice and fairness.Responsibilities
- Oversee the safety and security of detainees
- Manage and maintain detention facilities
- Ensure compliance with legal and departmental policies
- Provide emotional support and guidance to detainees
- Handle emergencies and crisis situations
- Interact with the public and other law enforcement agencies
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Texas driver’s license
- Successful completion of a background check
- Ability to pass a physical fitness test
- Pass a drug screening
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in law enforcement or corrections
- Proven ability to handle stressful situations and maintain composure
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
