Desktop Engineer
This is a contract position based in Oklahoma City, OK, with fully remote work.
About the role
The M&A Desktop Engineer is responsible for hands-on discovery, planning, migration, and stabilization of acquired company infrastructure, messaging, and Microsoft 365 services into the client's environment. This role focuses on server discovery, migration runbooks, Exchange Online migrations, tenant-to-tenant migration activities, mail routing, SMTP relay migration, storage, Azure, Active Directory, DNS, and related infrastructure services.
This position is intended for an Engineer I contractor who can perform technical discovery, execute defined migration tasks, document runbooks, coordinate with internal teams, and provide stabilization support after migration cutovers.
Responsibilities
- Lead infrastructure discovery for acquired companies, including servers, storage, cloud services, Active Directory, DNS, messaging, and Microsoft 365 tenants.
- Develop and maintain migration runbooks, checklists, technical inventories, and cutover documentation.
- Execute server and workload migration activities involving VMware, Azure, Windows Server, storage systems, and, when present, Linux servers.
- Assess Linux servers sufficiently to determine how required data or services should be transitioned into the environment.
- Support Hyper-V environments when present, with VMware and Azure experience considered more critical.
- Support Exchange Online migrations, Hybrid Exchange scenarios, mail routing changes, tenant-to-tenant migrations, and SMTP relay migrations.
- Assist with Microsoft 365 tenant consolidation activities in coordination with the End User Migration contractor.
- Evaluate acquired Active Directory environments and support domain trust or connectivity requirements when needed.
- Coordinate with HR and identity teams when new users are created through standard onboarding processes.
- Assist with identity migration activities when required by the acquisition plan.
- Support Teams and SharePoint migration activities in coordination with the End User Migration contractor.
- Troubleshoot migration-related infrastructure and messaging issues and coordinate escalation with internal teams.
- Provide post-migration stabilization and support for approximately 30-60 days after each acquisition cutover.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with infrastructure migration, server administration, or systems integration projects.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, mail routing, SMTP relay, and tenant migration concepts.
- Experience documenting server inventories, dependencies, migration tasks, and cutover plans.
- Ability to troubleshoot Windows Server, DNS, Active Directory, Azure, and storage-related migration issues.
- Ability to coordinate with internal teams while executing assigned hands-on migration work.
- Ability to communicate technical risks, dependencies, and blockers clearly.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00 per hour.
