Deskside Support Engineer

Location: Houston, TX (Onsite). This role is not able to offer visa transfer or sponsorship now or in the future.

About the role

1–5 years of experience supporting desktops, workstations, notebooks, and similar devices. The position involves troubleshooting, customer management, weekly reporting, inventory management, supplier coordination, and other administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide hardware break-fix support, typically by whole-unit swap.
• Manage spares provided on site.
• Deliver deskside support, installations, and changes.
• Provide excellent customer service and adhere to defined processes and work instructions, including proactive and reactive escalations.
• Interface with end users, management, VIPs, and local technical staff.
• Troubleshoot issues on multiple platforms: Macintosh, Windows, Linux, and mobile devices.
• Configure and support network setups: LAN, WAN, Wireless, VPN, and VLAN.
• Perform asset tagging and manage incoming equipment in the asset management system.
• Provide weekly reports on physical inventory counts and record hardware outflows.
• Coordinate with external suppliers to schedule repairs for damaged or malfunctioning hardware.

Skills

• Excellent skills in user IT infrastructure: desktops, laptops, printers, handhelds, and smartphones.
• Strong technical skills in Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems and business productivity applications (e.g., Office).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Effective communication in English and local languages.

Pay

Annual salary range: $37,800–$59,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program based on performance.
