Designer III - Land Development

About the Role

McAdams, a full-service land planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, transportation, and geomatics firm with offices in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Florida, is seeking a Designer III (DIII) to lead and coordinate design efforts within a collaborative team environment. The DIII will play a key role in producing high-quality, accurate plans under tight deadlines, overseeing the full spectrum of design tasks from permitting through construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of preliminary design plans, including site plans, utility plans, and grading plans, for initial project feasibility analysis and base design setup.
• Uphold McAdams' CAD and design standards to ensure consistency and quality in plan production.
• Set up comprehensive sheet packages for construction drawing plan sets, incorporate redlines, and maintain precise documentation.
• Compile detailed plan sheets with standard notes, construction sequences, and technical specifications.
• Collaborate on conceptual designs and develop detailed site layout plans using due diligence documents.
• Contribute to preliminary and final utility layouts, focusing on water distribution and sanitary sewer infrastructure.
• Assist in creating preliminary and final grading plans, generate 3D surface models, and conduct earthwork volume analysis.
• Utilize Civil 3D software to create and modify alignments, profiles, surfaces, and pipe network designs.
• Support storm drainage system planning and sediment/erosion control design efforts.
• Coordinate with regulatory review agencies to address comments and establish a path forward.
• Maintain project schedules and actively participate in team discussions and mentorship activities.

Qualifications

• Four-year bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field.
• 2 - 5 years of experience in civil engineering or a related field.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.
• EI certification on path to PE preferred.

Work Environment

Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds may be required.
