About the role

We are seeking a CAD Designer to support our Aiken, SC office. The Designer is responsible for initiating and developing engineering drawings through completion for assigned projects in conformance with the requirements, applicable codes, and design criteria established by the project's discipline engineers. Works under the direction of the Design Supervisor or Lead Designer.

Responsibilities

• Develops engineering drawings of moderate complexity under general supervision.
• Applies a solid understanding within a specific discipline, including familiarity with codes, permits, and software applications.
• Prepares designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline-associated instructions in accordance with established practices, standards, and procedures.
• Understands the engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support the overall project design.
• Reviews vendor documents for accuracy and understands their purpose and use.
• Assists in collecting data on manpower, man-hour, and labor costs to aid in budget evaluation.
• Performs material take-offs and applies basic knowledge of cost estimating methods and materials costs.
• Coordinates work with other discipline groups on the project.
• Prepares complete design details, bills of materials, and other documentation for distribution to drafting personnel.
• Understands project scope within the discipline and provides support for engineering deliverables.
• Advises supervisors about assignment status, including schedule, budget, delays, and problems.
• Provides technical guidance to other design and drafting personnel and ensures neatness and accuracy of work.
• Maintains proper files and records related to assigned design activities.
• Upgrades technical knowledge and capabilities through additional coursework and training.
• Develops an understanding of the role of other engineering disciplines.
• Performs other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years of experience as a CAD Designer.
• Capability with 2D and/or 3D plant design is strongly recommended.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications.
• Organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
• Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance, if required.
• Ability to travel, if required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience as a CAD designer for Instrumentation and Controls or Security Systems.

Pay

$35.00–$46.00 per hour. The compensation range is a good-faith estimate and may vary based on job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
