Designer (AutoCAD Civil3D)
About the role
Geosyntec has an opportunity for a Designer (AutoCAD Civil 3D) in our Bedford, NH office or any of our other U.S.-based offices. A hybrid work schedule may be available at the company’s discretion. The position involves computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for civil and geotechnical engineering projects, including landfills, industrial sites, and utilities. Responsibilities span from conceptual design through construction, with opportunities to contribute to layouts, grading plans, and mechanical drawing systems.

Responsibilities
- Draft, edit, and finalize design plans and details using efficient methods and adhering to Geosyntec drafting standards.
- Translate civil/geotechnical engineering concepts (e.g., grading) into design drawings.
- Analyze sketches, notes, and other input materials to determine the best approach for completing drawing sets.
- Manage the production of drawing sets from creation through markup and modification.
- Assign work to, mentor, train, and supervise CADD technicians, and review completed work for quality.
- Assist with CADD department management tasks, including estimating effort and developing file management standards.
- Participate in the CAD Action Group to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company.
- Collaborate with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare and review design drawings.
- Drive personal, company, or rental vehicles to client sites, project locations, or offices as needed.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Drafting and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a professional civil engineering setting; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, 3D surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and large civil design projects.
- Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and AutoCAD Map3D, including a strong understanding of Civil 3D annotation styles, object and label styles, surfaces, alignments, profiles, pipe networks, and volume calculations.
- Understanding of Feature Lines, Grading Groups, Assemblies, and Corridors.
- Ability to apply mathematical fundamentals (e.g., geometry, trigonometry) to engineering design situations.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret redline drawings from engineers, CAD managers, or project team members.
- Strong communication skills to follow complex instructions and maintain a team environment.
- Ability to present information effectively to project teams and clients.
- Ability to supervise and communicate with subordinate staff.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel.

Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of the Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years.
- Experience with stormwater management design.
- Experience with ArcGIS and MicroStation.
- Working knowledge of ESRI ArcMap or equivalent GIS software.
