Designer
About the role
The Electrical Designer is responsible for developing and preparing high-quality electrical engineering permit drawings and construction documents to support field electricians on complex electrical installations, in alignment with all Company policies, procedures, key objectives and regulations.
This role bridges engineering and construction by working closely with field electricians, project managers, designers, and VDC/BIM teams to deliver fully constructible designs across a wide range of projects, from small Design/Build efforts to some of the largest hyper-scale construction projects in the country.
Responsibilities
- Develops and prepares detailed electrical engineering permit drawings and construction installation documents to support field execution.
- Develops conceptual designs, sketches, and value engineering ideas to support project managers and estimators during planning and preconstruction.
- Prepares electrical calculations, specifications, reports, and technical documentation throughout all phases of construction.
- Develops, reviews, and validates engineering studies including arc flash, short circuit, overcurrent protective device coordination (OCPD), duct bank ampacity, load, lighting, and power factor correction.
- Captures and coordinates electrical systems, including equipment, conduit, and cable tray within Revit.
- Participates in electrical construction and design-related training.
- Adheres to company engineering standards and maintains strict QA/QC procedures for all deliverables.
- Recommends improvements to design standards, workflows, and procedures.
- Responds to design questions, resolves issues, and issues plan revisions as required.
- Stays current with new electrical and safety codes, materials, technologies, and industry best practices.
- Leads small to mid-size projects as assigned and provides technical guidance to other designers and engineers.
- Supports design team members as needed while upholding the company’s core values.
- Consistently makes decisions in an attentive and safe manner to ensure the safety and health of self and others.
- Utilizes LEAN concepts or other continuous improvement methodologies to ensure the most efficient operations, processes, and activities.

Requirements
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology or a related field preferred; coursework in electrical engineering and/or relevant electrical field experience is a plus.
- Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in electrical facilities power design, including lighting and receptacle layouts, circuiting and panelboard schedules, and load calculations and equipment sizing.
- Experience in healthcare, heavy industrial, and/or mission critical projects is highly desirable. Controls experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in Revit, Autodesk tools, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
- Experience performing engineering studies using SKM or ETAP is a plus.
- Strong desire to learn and grow within the electrical construction industry, with a commitment to teamwork and dependability.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and related building codes.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical contracts, plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and maintain a high level of organization and accuracy.
- Demonstrated strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Proven problem-solving ability, sound judgment, customer service orientation, and effective time management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills with a strong focus on collaboration and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed, sometimes requiring overnight stays.

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Occasional travel to job sites is required, sometimes requiring overnight stays.
