Responsibilities

  • Design automatic sprinkler systems, including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems using working knowledge of fire sprinkler codes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for each design.
  • Prepare submittal packages for the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and handle subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval.
  • Participate in coordination and design kick-off meetings with contractors.
  • With assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer, prepare fabrication lists for pipe fabrication vendors and requisition materials.
  • With assistance, perform field surveys to ensure designs are appropriate for structures.
  • Assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
  • Prepare and submit final job close-out documents after final acceptance testing.
  • Understand and follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication program, policies, and procedures. Know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
  • Periodically attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NICET II or NICET III and/or state-required certification required; equivalent experience considered if pursuing NICET education.
  • 1-2 years’ experience as a sprinkler designer.
  • Construction experience, mechanical aptitude, and basic/advanced math skills.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements.

Skills

  • Proficiency in operating a computer and using Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with HydraCad and/or other CAD software (preferred).

Physical & Work Environment

  • Ability to sit for long periods.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, balancing, lifting (under 20 lbs), walking, standing, ascending/descending stairs, driving, twisting, and reaching above/below shoulders.
  • Frequent driving and walking for extended periods.
  • Consistent indoor office work, both alone and with others.
  • Occasional outdoor work, exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
  • Occasional requirement to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as per company safety policies.
