Design Specialist - Electric Distribution

About the role

ENTRUST Solutions Group partners with leading utilities to design and deliver safe, reliable infrastructure. We are currently seeking a Design Specialist to support CenterPoint Energy in the Houston area.

Responsibilities

• Develop layouts, drawings, and construction-ready packages using design tools and software
• Create and maintain plans, specifications, reports, diagrams, and engineering documentation
• Avoid and resolve issues during construction in the field
• Manage workload, timelines, and project deliverables across multiple assignments
• Conduct field visits, site investigations, and data collection to support design accuracy
• Coordinate and manage permit submittals to ensure compliance with local requirements
• Collaborate with internal teams, field personnel, and client representatives to ensure project success

Requirements

• Experience supporting electric distribution design, drafting, or CAD-based design work
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, O-Calc, and/or SPIDACalc (or similar design tools)
• Experience working with GIS or mapping systems
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% for fieldwork and client coordination

Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, drafting/design, or a related field
• Additional certifications or technical training related to utility or infrastructure design
• Experience working with electric utilities or supporting client-driven projects
