Design Manager, AMER Portfolio, Design, Sustainability & Engineering
About the role
The Global Design team is seeking a creative, innovative, and results-oriented Design Program Manager to lead the team responsible for the design of tenant improvement projects in the Americas (AMER) portfolio. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Global Design, and collaborates closely with the Design & Construction (DSE & C) teams, the Workplace Guidelines & Standards team, and the Regional Portfolio Management (RPM) team.
The Design Program Manager will guide Design Managers overseeing new build and post-occupancy tenant improvement projects—updating, revising, and evolving spaces where Amazonians currently work. Projects range from designing multiple floors to suit team needs, creating smaller specialty spaces, or developing scalable design solutions (e.g., acoustics, lighting, or furniture improvements).
As the AMER lead, this role participates in strategy, in-flight, and planning meetings, coordinates with AMER leads in GREF partner teams, and works closely with AMER Construction leads and sub-consultants/vendors on project delivery. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, balances frugality with creativity, and solves complex problems with simplified solutions. Regional travel is required (10-20% of the time).
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage Design Managers responsible for tenant improvement projects, including:
- Leading space design based on customer needs and technical requirements.
- Collaborating with external/vendor design teams (Architect of Record) on select projects.
- Aligning project designs with the overall Corporate Workplace concept developed by the Global Design team.
- Informing the Guidelines and Standards team on design elements to translate into global functional guidelines.
- Lead strategy, planning, and program management sessions for the AMER portfolio.
- Work cross-functionally with regional peers to ensure a consistent customer experience while respecting local/cultural nuances.
- Collaborate with GREF partner teams (Regional Portfolio Management, Sustainability, Environmental Health and Safety, Travel and Events) to elevate program deliverables and improve workspace quality with a focus on resiliency, efficiency, health, and safety.
- Engage with external industry bodies and communities to adopt new standards, best practices, technology, and innovations into the program.
